Military Spouse of the Year hails from 926th Wing

NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, Nev. -- Congratulations to Mrs. Mandi Thorn, Armed Forces Insurance and Military Spouse Magazine's 2015 Nellis Air Force Base Spouse of the Year. Selected by popular vote, Thorn goes on to compete at the national level to represent the base.

Winners were chosen based on the their impact on community change, volunteer efforts, personal sacrifices, professional pursuits, goals, and specific efforts to support the military community. Thorn was recognized as a result of her work as the Key Spouse for the 555th RED HORSE and 926th Security Forces squadrons, and her support of all military families
stationed at Nellis AFB.

This is the second year in a row she has won the base-level award. She was also presented with the President's Volunteer Service Award-Gold Level in 2014 for her hundreds of hours of volunteer time.

Thorn is an appointed member of the City of Las Vegas Board of Appeals, and the City of Henderson Development Services Advisory Committee. Thorn works in Las Vegas as the Assistant Vice President Director of Construction and Maintenance at Harsch Investment Properties. She is married to Master Sgt. Nathan Thorn, 926th Security Forces Squadron first sergeant.

The Military Spouse of the Year award was established in 2008 to honor military spouses of all ranks and from all branches of service. The award recognizes military spouses' important contributions and commitment to the military community and the country.
